Some thoughts.

I’ve been quite busy lately. I’m working full-time at an internship in Ottawa until the end of the month (west coast for the summer), working on some electronics ideas/projects and spending a lot of time on music. As you may or may not know, I’m making an album called “Blank Mind Empty Heart”.

I sold my last album, Adventures, for $5+, the + being that you can pay more if you want to. It was really great and I’m incredibly thankful for the people that want to support me, it certainly helps. A lot of people also downloaded/shared/”pirated” the album, which don’t mind. If I wanted to make a lot of money I’d choose another way to spend my free time - I make music but I can’t not make music. This is my art. I want you to enjoy it to, and if you don’t want to pay for it, that’s your choice. I certainly haven’t paid for all the music I listen to, but I do try to support artists that need it as best I can.

That being said, if you want to support me and can afford it, buy my music or come to my (rare) shows. If you can’t, download my music and show it to your friends. I’ll consider that fair compensation.

I’ll probably go with a similar pricing scheme for this album. I dislike the rigid “$1 per song” structure that a lot of people still follow these days. $20 is too much to expect people to pay for a 20-song (digital) album.

Nothing new musical to share, I’m afraid. I really don’t want to give anything away until I’m sure it’s as good as it can possibly be; I’m not setting any release dates for anything. Definitely check out Arrange (http://arrange.bandcamp.com) and Kotomi (http://soundcloud.com/kotomi) - collaborating with both of them on this project, along with (hopefully) a couple more. Time will tell.

I am very proud to announce that as of today, I am returning to the Germany Germany project.

Last August, after releasing Adventures in May and playing some really fun shows in Europe, I realized that it was time for a break. I never intended for this project to take over my life the way it did. After trying to make some more music and ultimately failing, I announced my indefinite hiatus from music. I had never felt so relieved in my life. I built an electronic light installation (info here) and spent more time with my friends. Thankfully, as time wore on I felt more and more inclined to create, and that is what I’ve done. I feel different, maybe a little wiser and a little more mature.

Maybe a bit like in the first Lord of the Rings when Gandalf dies, then (spoiler alert) he comes back to life later as Gandalf the White. Maybe a bit like that.

The next Germany Germany album, the true successor to Adventures, is called Blank Mind Empty Heart.

The first two songs I’m releasing from this album are called Departure and Disconnect, the second featuring Steffaloo on vocals once again (she sang on Just Go and the collab project Toy Camera). They are both slower, thoughtful, maybe a bit pensive. Actually, a lot of the album will be like that, though there are a few bangers that I think will be pretty interesting when done.
